Vehicle Body Repair Technician

Role Overview

Job Purpose

Main Responsibilities

• Works as part of the workshop team to carry out scheduled Smart repair work, in accordance with technical standards
• Competent in repairing side panels, doors and larger paint repair jobs
• Working from the dealership, providing a high standard of service
• Examines vehicles and diagnoses routine and non-routine defects, using a knowledge of the vehicles, products and technologies concerned
• Repair and re-spray bumpers (usually only corners), scratches and scuffs to doors/wings/quarter panels and tailgates
• Repair and refurbish alloy wheels
• Carries out each job within the budgeted time as set out – to maintain own labour productivity
• Works in accordance with workshop and Health & Safety requirements
• Works with colleagues to maintain workshop standards of cleanliness and tidiness
• Takes personal responsibility for the daily maintenance of equipment, and reports equipment defects or problems that need attention accordingly
• Follows key processes to achieve specified quality and efficiency targets
• Works with the group of Centres to provide efficient processes
• Talks to customers/colleagues to summarise the details of the work required or carried out, and answer their questions
• Offers customers/colleagues a detailed technical explanation (where this is required) in a way that recognises their level of technical proficiency
• Listens carefully to customers/colleagues and builds rapport and understanding during these discussions (where possible) to deliver customer satisfaction with the Centre
• Coaches and supports apprentice technicians – for example by explaining a repair on a step-by-step basis as it is being carried out, or allowing an apprentice to carry out part of a job
• Provides assistance and guidance to colleagues who are less skilled or knowledgeable
• Attends specialised training as required
• Works with colleagues and other teams across the Centres within the group to provide a seamless service to customers (e.g. by informally observing and responding to the needs of customers who are not being attended to by other members of staff)
• Ensures opportunities for sales are followed up by the most appropriate specialist
• Reports on technical problems using appropriate procedures

Essential

• Good standard of education with a qualification in Maths and English
• Hold a recognised motor industry qualification or equivalent for paint spraying
• Previous experience of paint spraying service delivered to a high standards in a insurance approved body shop or mobile Smart repair business
• Excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills
• Excellent customer service/people skills
• Polite, calm and approachable persona
• Must be a team player
• Ability to work on own initiative or with minimum supervision
• Must have flexible ‘can do’ approach
• Must hold a full UK drivers licence
